If you’re a Halo fan, at some point you’ve probably wished you could have an actual energy sword to take out your frustrations with. While no such real-world weapon currently exists, here’s the next best thing.

halo energy sword

halo energy sword 2

Currently up for auction over on eBay, this life-size replica Halo sword isn’t made from an unknown energy source, but it still looks intimidating. Measuring in at 36″ x 14″, it’s no kids’ toy. In fact, it’s a real sword, complete with mirror-finished stainless steel blade edges.

The sword comes with a collector’s card, a walnut wall plaque and a Certificate of Originality from creator Lionheartsrealm to prove that this is the “real” deal.

Now all I need is a functional bubble shield and I’ll be all set.

Homemade Video Game Weapons: Keepin’ It Real Geeky

I love the new Gamespy. Who else loves the new Gamespy! Before they were just another video game site, with previews, reviews, and tons of ads, except that they had Flintlocke. But now they have so much more to offer. And Flintlocke is still there, still stupid, and still funny. I just wish they had a back button or something, to make it easier for viewers to peruse the annals of their awesomeness. That being said, here’s something from one of their more awesome original content,  a list made by Robert Brockway about the real life versions of video game weapons, and the imaginative (some might say insane) geeks behind them.

wolverine claws

That’s Wolverine claws guy. Are there any self-respecting geeks out there who can honestly say that they never wondered what it would be like to have Wolverine’s claws? Are there any self-respecting geeks out there? I’m just kidding, but Wolverine claws guy isn’t. He’s out for blood. Cardboard box blood.

Here’s my favorite on the list, a real-life Buster Sword. Watch the video and then think of how Cloud just twirls the goddamned thing around after every battle.  Cloud be strong.

You have to love the dissonance between the music and the action on screen. Head on over to Gamespy for the rest of the article, which also features a real-life rifle lancer from Gears of War. Yes, it’s a real, working rifle with a real, working chainsaw attached to it, a combination akin to “stapling a shark to a bear.”

Frostmourne Replica on Ebay: How Much Are You Willing to Pay for a Foam Sword?

$

For those who are not into World of Warcraft, Frostmourne is the sword held by the evil being called the Lich King, leader of one of the undead factions in the MMORPG. How powerful is this sword? According to the WoW wiki: “Frostmourne increased Arthas’ [the new Lich King] base damage by 22 points and allowed him to deal chaos damage, which was fully effective against all types of armor (including that of buildings and divine beings).” Chaos damage and +22 to your base damage! How about that! What bonuses do you think will this foam-bladed replica endow upon its deep-pocketed wielder?

frostmourne

Canada-based Ateliers-Nemesis are selling this massive 51″ Frostmourne replica on eBay with a starting bid of $510 (USD). As I said, the sword’s blade is made of foam that’s been covered in latex. The guard and pommel are made of cast rubber, while the grip is made of hard wood covered in leather. The sword has also been hand-painted with phosphorescent paint that allows it to glow “for more than 9  hours.” There are already 23 bidders for the sword as I’m writing this, and the auction ends today. But even if you don’t score Frostmourne, Ateliers-Nemesis still have a toy armory full of badass toy weapons, so check out their website if you’re interested.

I think my base damage is -981231, so not even a hundred Frostmournes can make me a worthy warrior.

Halo Energy Sword Replica Looks Significantly Less User Friendly Than Original Glowing Model

There’s nothing to dislike about a replica Halo sword. Even without sharpened points, this baby looks 100% badass. There is nothing unbadass about it. In fact, this sword is so very bad that it doesn’t even have anything over the handle to protect unhardened wussy hands from the sharp corners of death metal connecting those blades.

tb halo energysword

There are quite a few energy sword replicas around (even around here!), but though this one is plainer than most, I think I really like it. The sword can inspire some serious fear in a hectic game of multiplayer (at least, if you’re me), and this thing looks bad. No shiny little glowing model, this.

And it’s handmade–always a nice touch.

Master Sword & Hylian Shield Replicas: It’S Dangerous to Cosplay Alone! Take These.

Fauxblademaster Aaron makes “convention safe” video game swords and shields in his spare time. He hasn’t made a ton of them yet, but each of his creations are very detailed. Here’s one of his creations, a fiberglass replica of the Twilight Princess version of the Master Sword, Link’s trusty weapon in the Legend of Zelda series.

Twilight Princess Master Sword prop 1

The sword is 42″ long and weighs about 3 lbs. It’s made of aluminum/fiberglass-reinforced resin and was painted with automotive paint. I haven’t played Twilight Princess so I don’t know how accurate the replica is, but it’s a nice fake sword nonetheless. Aaron also made an Ocarina of Time version of the Master Sword:

Ocarina Master Sword prop

The sword is the same length and weight as the previous one – they’re both Master Swords after all. Even though it looks plainer than the Twilight Princess sword, Aaron seems to be particularly proud of this replica: “This replica… is probably the most accurate cosplay safe collector prop out there.  I spent a great deal of time making it myself, paying careful attention to every tiny detail, and sizing overall proportions to the concept art.” Aaron, you are a skilled & hardworking man with lots of free time. I am your complete opposite.

Twilight Princess Ocarina of Time shields

What would a Master Sword be without a Hylian Shield? Still a Master Sword, that’s what. But Aaron’s shield replicas are so shiny and pointy, some Zelda fans will probably want these more than the swords. Speaking of want, Aaron made these replicas for himself, but if you want him to make replicas of these replicas, just contact him and he’ll work out a deal with you. He doesn’t have specific prices for each of his creations, but he does estimate that they’re worth $400-$600 (USD) each. You can probably commission him to make non-Zelda stuff, but of course, as Aaron himself said, new designs will take more time – and money – to finish. Check out his website for more pics and info. If you’re a web designer, try trading a sword or two in exchange for pimping up Aaron’s site. He’s a blademaster, not a webmaster. Just go to his site; you’ll see what I mean.

A while back we featured a video of the versatile Tomy i-SOBOT shooting at a bunch of rectangular sponges with a bow and arrow. It turns out that the hurting didn’t stop there, as YouTube user paxshikai eventually came up with an armory’s worth of custom weapons for his/her robot, including a gatling gun.

God of War Kratos Blade Replica: Destroy Your Real World Enemies…

…or actually, you probably shouldn’t do that. But you still will look awfully cool walking around with this big, bad-ass GoW blade that looks just like the one Kratos slashes his enemies with.

kratos gow blade sword

This prop-replica of Kratos’ Blade of Chaos is cast from sturdy zinc-aluminum, and has custom etched textures to give it that war-worn look. The only thing missing is a juicy coating of blood. This beast measures in at over 20″ long, with the blade measuring in at over a foot long. The makers of the replica have also laser-etched each individual blade with its own serial number, so you know you’ve got the real deal. Of course anyone on the business-end of this thing will probably go along with whatever you say regardless of this seal of authenticity.

God of War fans can pre-order the Blade of Chaos replica over at Entertainment Earth for $149.99 (USD).

Sir Terry Pratchett Forges Meteorite Sword: I Wonder if My Pen is Still Mightier Than That

Sir Terry Pratchett became a knight last year, so it’s only fitting that he equipped himself with a sword. But the Discworld author didn’t just buy or commission a sword; he made one himself. Pratchett gathered the iron ore and with the help of his friends built a kiln to smelt the iron. To make the sword even more special, his agent Colin Smythe also donated pieces of “thunderbolt iron” – iron from a meteorite.  Pratchett then forged the sword with the help of Jake Keen, “an expert on ancient metal-making techniques”. Behold! The Pratchett Meteorite Sword:

terry pratchett meteorite sword

Unfortunately not even official knights are allowed to carry swords, so Pratchett has hidden the sword instead, in case anyone takes an interest in it. I think it’s safe to say that millions of people are indeed interested in it. I wonder how long we have to wait before this gets referenced in a video game.

Umbrella Sword Keeps You Dry, Kills Zombies Dead

$

If you’re looking for another weapon to add to your arsenal to protect yourself from the inevitable zombie apocalypse, you might want to consider carrying an umbrella with you. No you’re not going to use it to keep dry while the zombies get wet in the rain, you’re going to use it and stab them in the eyes and then disembowel them. That is, at least that’s if you buy this umbrella.

sword umbrella

This otherwise ordinary umbrella conceals a nasty surprise. Hiding in the middle of this thing is a 15″ long stainless steel sword, ready to dispatch zombies or any other would-be attackers. While it still works as a regular umbrella, you just grab the knuckle grip, give it a yank, and you’re ready for some serious zombie-killing action. Or swashbuckling, if you’re into that sort of thing.

In all seriousness, there’s probably not a lot of real-world uses for this thing, but it is an impressive weapon nonetheless. It’s can’t even be shipped to California, Massachusetts or New York, if that gives you any sense how dangerous it really is. On the other hand, if you do have a zombie invasion in those states, you’re SOL. If you’re prepared to treat this weapon with the respect it deserves, you can get the umbrella sword over at BUDK for $29.99 (USD).

Devil May Cry Rebellion Sword Replica Too Heavy for a Million Stab Combo

Fans of the Devil May Cry series will immediately recognize this massive and beautiful sword as Dante’s Rebellion. Yeah, I know that’s not Dante holding it – the hair cut and color is all wrong. It’s metalsmith Michael Craughwell (aka “MichaelCthulhu,”) who in his own words simply says “Giant swords are kinda my thing.”

devil may cry rebellion sword

You got that right, Mike. From the looks of this incredible thing, you’ve definitely got the giant sword thing down. It’s made from steel and weighs in at a whopping 33.5 pounds, so you’ll definitely need some upper body strength if you plan on wielding this thing in battle. The only thing missing is the glowing red eyes for the skull. But a couple of LEDs and a battery should take care of that, right?

devil may cry rebellion sword 2

Want proof that it’s made out of metal? Watch this video clip and see how shiny the steel remains after a bath in 1000 degree fire. It also proves the sword doesn’t glow like Dante’s. He’d have to get the heat up to 2000+ degrees to make it do that.

If you’d like one for yourself, Michael will make you your very own Rebellion sword for $850(USD). The build takes about 2 months from the time you place your order. But even if you don’t buy one, be sure to check out the photos of this incredible build here.

Blizzard Employee Auctions Off Rare 5-Year Sword: Start Farming for Dollars

The eagle-eyed GameSniped spotted an unusual bit of loot for sale at the real money auction house known as eBay. It’s a sword, but not just any sword: it was given to a Blizzard Entertainment employee in recognition of his or her 5 years with the company. Apparently the sword isn’t binding, so now you have to chance to wield the sword even if you weren’t the first one to find it.

blizzard entertainment 5 year sword

Blizzard holds an annual “Swords and Shields” ceremony to honor longtime employees. Five years of service qualifies for a sword, 10 years a shield and 15 a ring. According to Blizzard the design of the sword changes every year, which makes this item even rarer (if it’s the real deal, that is). However the shield and ring designs stay the same. I haven’t seen the ring but the shield is pretty sweet. It’s a replica of the shield on Lordaeron’s coat of arms.

blizzard entertainment 5 year sword 2 300x250 blizzard entertainment 5 year sword 3 300x250 blizzard entertainment 5 year sword 4 300x250 blizzard entertainment 5 year sword 300x250

Bid at least $510 (USD) on eBay to have a shot at earning the sword. Its rack does match the ones shown on Blizzard’s gallery, but I cannot vouch for the authenticity of this product. The auctioneer did say that the sword was given just last year, March 18, 2011 to be exact. That should help you verify if the loot is worth your hard farmed dollars.

Legend of Zelda Link’s Swords Wallpaper: Take These. All of Them.

Link may have headed out alone for most of his adventures, but he always had his trusty weapons by his side. deviantART member James aka BLUEamnesiac made a huge wallpaper that contains all of the canonical swords, grouped according to the game that they appear in:

The original image has a 3,200 x 2,000 resolution. I chopped some of its parts down so we can appreciate James’ art a bit better. Hardcore fans of the series will see that James slightly tweaked the art of some of the swords, particularly the less ornate ones.

The Sword Skillet Won’t Slice or Dice Opponents, But It Will Fry Their Eggs

If you are looking to take up the sword, but can’t stab, slice or parry, this sword skillet might be for you. It won’t pierce flesh, but will still knock your enemy out cold if you can get close enough to hit him upside the head with it. And then after your victorious, but silly battle is over, this weapon will fry up some eggs rather nicely.

sword skillet
It will also cook up dragon meat like a pro, but let’s face it, you are never going to kill a dragon with this weapon, so it looks like you will be eating a lot of eggs – and not dragon’s eggs.

The Combat Skillet by Morlock Enterprises really is a functional frying pan with a hilt attached. So if you are cooking breakfast and someone suddenly attacks you, just grab the hilt and hit him in the head. Ass-kicking is served. Now back to breakfast.

The skillet is available over on Kickstarter for $45(USD), or you can also order just the handle for converting your existing frying pans for just $27. The project has already raised over $13,000 so far, which is well above its fundraising goal.

Halo Energy Sword Lamp Won’t Kill You With One Hit

I’ve been so busy recently that I haven’t yet finished campaign mode on Halo 4, but I’m gradually making my way through all of the missions. One weapon that I have yet to stumble onto (other than in Infinity multiplayer mode) this time is the classic energy sword. I’m sure it’ll turn up sooner or later, as it’s the ultimate melee weapon. But I suppose if I want one right away, I could always go for this energy sword lamp.

halo energy sword lamp 1

The lamp is made from laser-cut acrylic that’s been shaped and polished in the form of the glowing and deadly Covenant weapon. The top part of the lamp is made of transparent blue, while the base is made from translucent dark blue acrylic.

halo energy sword lamp 2

Each lamp is made to order by Pete Belcher of The Back Pack Shoppe, and sells for $75(USD), which seems very reasonable for what it is. Halo fans can order one here.

From the looks of it, the tip of this thing is just as sharp and pointy as the weapon in the game, so don’t pick it up and start swinging it about. You’ll poke your eye out, kid.

Fans of Borderlands 2 would love to get their hands on this weapon. This awesome glowing sword is just like the one that Zer0 uses in the game – only this one is real. While there’s no cloaking ability to go along with this sword, it’s still pretty amazing.

This Borderlands 2 Zer0 Sword was built by Michelle Khuu (aka Sadistic-Otaku) out of wood, blue acrylic, a blue LED ribbon, a toggle switch and a 9v battery. It is a geek creation of deadly beauty. Hopefully she hasn’t cut anyone in half with it.

Katana Bookends Help You Slice Through Reading Material in Seconds

While I still have years worth of old paper books lying around my house, I have to be honest and say that I don’t read much in the way of physical books anymore. Other than the occasional graphic novel or comic book, I prefer to read on my iPad these days. That said, I have a few very special books that are deserving of a proud place on top of the bookshelf, and I’ve finally found the best way to show them off.

katana bookends

Yep. Katana Bookends, folks. Shut up and take my money already.  They’re coming this March from UK design shop Mustard for about $30(USD) and they’re perfect for displaying your favorite martial arts instructional books, or in my case, issues of The Walking Dead – specifically those with Michonne in them.

While I’d like to think they pulled off the visual trickery of the blade slicing through the books using massive neodymium magnets, it looks to me more like the old Steve Martin arrow-through-the-head gag, but with books instead of a head in the middle. Regardless of how they’re made, they’re still Katana Bookends, so what’s not to like?

We’ve already seen a taser shotgun, a taser grenade and even a taser-packing drone. But none of them look as badass as YouTuber jonathanj9969′s double-bladed taser sword. It looks and sounds like an express train to Pain Station, although in reality it’s probably the least harmful of these taser combos.

taser sword by jonathanj9969

Redditor Timid_Pimp points out that the sword seems to be this cheap 2-in-1 “ninja sword.” Jonathanj9969 mentions in the video that he replaced the magnets that join the two blades with nylon bolts. I don’t know how the taser is connected to the blades, but it is taped and insulated together with the hilt.

Now, the moment you’ve been waiting for: ladies and gentlemen, we’ve found a willing victim! It’s jonathanj9969 himself!

This game room tells you many things at a glance. This gamer clearly loves Halo. He is rocking an Xbox 360. His game collection is neat and orderly. There are a bunch of game weapons on the wall. And he is almost certainly single. I don’t know any wife or girlfriend who would allow such an awesome room.

Prop builder Andrew Cook created an arsenal of replicas of guns and swords from Halo and Mass Effect to decorate his game room with. Clearly, Andrew takes his gaming very seriously. It would be kind of intimidating entering this room to play with him.

The weapons are made primarily from lightweight EPS styrofoam, and no, Andrew won’t sell them to you. But if you want to see how he builds them, you can check out some videos of how the guns were made here. Check out the massive Halo 4 Forerunner Binary Rifle here:

By the power of Grayskull. A blacksmith named Tony Swatton has made a real life version of He-Man’s sword of power. Tony has made weapons for a bunch of movies and TV shows, so hey, why not?

He has made swords for Game of Thrones, Pirates of the Caribbean, Batarangs for Batman, and the list goes on. Now he makes weapons for his YouTube series, Man At Arms. And now he has made He-Man’s sword.

swordofpower
This impressively large sword has a 36-inch blade and it is the real deal. This one could kill somebody.  The build video is definitely worth watching – especially when he puts it to the test on that poor car.

Look out, Skeletor! No word on whether the blade has the powers of Castle Grayskull, but it sure is a beauty.
