Etsy shop Gothelf Bros Studios makes these wooden replicas of Link’s swords from The Legend of Zelda. There’s the Wooden Sword, the White Sword and the Magic Sword. Isn’t the Old Man kind of an ass for not giving the Magic Sword to Link right away? The kid’s trying to save your kingdom! Really, NPCs should be giving us everything they have as soon as we press start.

Katana Forged from Meteorite: The Sword of Heaven

Back in 2010 we heard about how the late Sir Terry Pratchett made his own sword using a bit of iron from a meteorite. The blade of this katana on the other hand was made entirely from a meteorite. It’s called the Tentetsutou (天鉄刀), which translates to Sword of Heaven. Yep, this is going to read like a wiki page for a JRPG item.

meteorite_sword_of_heaven_1 meteorite_sword_of_heaven_2 meteorite_sword_of_heaven_3

The renowned blacksmith Yoshindo Yoshiwara crafted the katana using fragments from Gibeon, an iron-alloy meteorite that landed near a town in Namibia after which it was named. Chiba Institute of Technology (CIT) made this video about Tentetsutou. Sadly it’s all in Japanese, but you can get glimpses of the katana at 2:34 and 7:18.

According to Namibia 1-on-1, in the late 1830s British explorer Sir James Alexander saw locals using Gibeon’s pieces to make tools and weapons. Alexander sent samples back to London, where it was verified that the rock came from space.

You can see the rest of Gibeon at the Post Street Mall in Namibia, while Tentetsutou is on permanent display at CIT’s exhibit at the Skytree tower in Tokyo, Japan. Cool story, sword! I bet it teaches you a badass special move if you use it 255 times.

Let’s end on this note by Twitter user Zan_Woo, who says he’s going to take the Sword of Heaven, climb the Skytree and defeat the final boss at the top of the tower. Legend of Zan Woo: Let Us Climb Together. Coming to Nintendo 5DS in 2030.

Robot Goes Fruit Ninja with a Katana Sword

Late last year I talked a bit about a pair of robotic arms that had a sword fight. It was pretty awesome to see them battle it out to the with swords. This time out we have a robot with a katana sword and this ‘bot is totally a Fruit Ninja.

robot_with_samurai_sword_1

In fact, this robot is accurate enough with its sword to slice a pea pod in half. The robot is a Yaskawa Motoman-MH24, which is used in the medical field. The robot is slicing stuff based on movements captured from modern samurai Isa Machii.

This is one video that you will want to see. I keep expecting chairs and stuff to come flying out of the ceiling for it to slice.

Watch the Kill Bill Katana Remade with Traditional Japanese Methods

I grew up watching all the old martial arts movies I could find on late night TV. I was always particularly enamored with the samurai and the katana sword. Perhaps the most famous movie with a Katana sword in it is Kill Bill.

Man at Arms: Reforged decided to replicate the Kill Bill sword using traditional Japanese forging methods. Incredibly, the build started with 1,100 pounds of charcoal to make their own metal from ore.

The finished product is embellished with 24k gold and could definitely find its way in the hands of a Japanese samurai protecting his master, or a hot blonde looking to kill her former boss. Watch the video to see the build, it’s awesome.

Blade of the Black Swordsman: Not as Dirty as It Sounds

Blade of the Black Swordsman sounds like some sort of interracial adult movie, but it’s not. It’s actually a really cool black sword made out of foam. With it, you can best your enemies without drawing blood, and having to go to jail/the hospital.

blk-sword-1

I feel like I am a little out of the loop on this one. Apparently it’s an unlicensed replica of a sword used in a video game, so the video game can’t be mentioned. I might not know what game it’s from, but I am a sucker for foam weapons.

We have been known to have some serious foam dart/sword beat downs around my house. If you’re up for some less-lethal fighting yourself, you can get one for $29.99 at ThinkGeek.

GoPro on a Sword: First-person Slicer

Want to see things get sliced and diced from the sword’s point of view? Of course you do. That’s what we are here for. This video from YouTubers Sam And Niko shows what happens when you mount a GoPro to the blade of a katana, then watch what it sees as it slices through things.

The video shows the whole process from the initial experimentation to the final shots, so it takes a bit to get into the POV slicing action. Just skip ahead to about 6:30 if you only want to see the main event.

I personally love seeing watermelons with faces drawn on them get what they deserve. They should not have faces, and now they are going to pay the price for their mimicry of us.

Who Doesn’t Want to Eat Noodles with a Giant Sword Fork?

Look at this picture. Yes that is a giant Final Fantasy sword with a fork at the end. With it you can slay yourself some delicious noodley dinner.

Apparently, the only way you can get this 24″ long fork is by winning a contest in Japan. However, you can buy some Final Fantasy packaged Cup Noodles. These noodles are tasty and perfect for people who want to eat, but have little money. We’ve all lived off packaged ramen at some point. I just think having a giant sword fork would make the noodles taste better.

Granted, a fork this massive would take all the noodles out of the cup at once and that is just asking for a major lip burn. There appear to be 16 different special Final Fantasy Boss Collection Cup Noodle packages, and Japanese fans can pre-order them now. Pre-order noodles?

Man at Arms: Reforged Creates Wonder Woman’s Sword

Wonder Woman hits theaters this week, and I know I can’t wait to see it. To celebrate, Man at Arms: Reforged created a real-life version of Wonder Woman’s indestructible God Killer sword from the movies.

They always do an amazing job and this sword is certainly a real beauty. It is a well designed sword to begin with. Naturally they tested it out along with the shield they recently made.

And since they didn’t have any DC bad guys attacking them, they had to use pineapples, soda bottles, gallons of water, and a piñata as their victims. It does some nice damage to all of the above.

Sword Cheese Grater is Perfect for Marcus Aurelius Cheficus

We all need to grate cheese, at least those normal among us do. I say normal because only an insane person doesn’t need nachos in their lives every now and again. You could grate your cheese with a normal boxy grater liek your grandma did, or you could get an awesome cheese grater.

This one is shaped like a Roman sword and has a hilt for a handle. It looks to grate up cheese in a fine pattern, but it all melts the same.

The fine grate mens it’s probably meant for parmesan and the like, but I’d totally grate cheddar for nachos. It’s not like any kitchen enemies could stand before the might of this grater and question your recipe prowess. Are you not entertained?

These Samurai Sword Letter Openers Are Ready to Take Down Tiny Zombies

$

If you’ve ever visited Japan, you might have come across some tiny samurai swords being sold as souvenirs. It turns out that some of these are actually designed to be letter openers. Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly reduced tourism throughout the country, so fewer people can get their hands on these tiny katanas. So Japanese scissor company Nikken has decided to start a crowdfunding campaign to sell them online.

These samurai sword letter openers are hand-sharpened by Seki craftsmen and feature a curved blade just like the real deal. However, these katanas are designed to be sharp enough only to open mail, and not to slice your skin.

These special edition swords come with a custom engraving on their blades, with any message you’d like – the only limit being eight kanji, hiragana, or katakana characters, or 15 Roman letters and numbers. They come in three different color schemes, and each one includes a handsome display stand.

The miniature katana letter openers are up for sale on Japanese crowdfunding site Makuake, with prices starting at just ¥4000 (~$37 USD), but it’s unclear if they can be shipped outside of Japan.

I can’t count the number of pencil sword fights I got into growing up. All I know is that my elementary school teachers didn’t appreciate it much. I can recall one particularly nasty duel where my opponent ended up with some lead under the palm of his hand.

What may well be the coolest add-on eraser for a pencil I have ever seen has turned up. It looks like the hilt of a sword. Slip it onto your pencil, and your pencil sword fights will now be much more realistic.

DIY Fallout 4 Shishkebab: You’ll Scorch Your Eye Out, Kid

Like many of you, Caleb Kraft is a fan of Fallout 4. Unlike many of you he’s a maker both in the game and in real life. When he saw the concept art for a new version of the series’ flaming sword he decided to make a fully-functioning replica. This is Vault Dweller at Arms.

fallout_4_shishkebab_sword_make_caleb_kraft_platinumfungi_1

Caleb asked the help of the famous retro console modder Ryan Fitzpatrick aka Platinumfungi to make the Shishkebab replica. They made it by installing a crude flame-throwing system on an actual katana. Unlike the video game sword, this replica’s motorcycle handbrake isn’t just a handguard. It’s also the trigger that releases butane from a canister to the copper pipe installed over the blade. A button near the hilt activates a spark of electricity at one of the pipe’s openings to ignite the butane.

Make the Cryolator next Caleb! Check out his article on Make: for more videos of their build.

Star Trek: TNG Foam Klingon Bat’leth is Better than a Nerf Sword

I always thought that Worf was one of the coolest characters on Star Trek: The Next Generation. I also liked the fact that he had a cool melee weapon called a Bat’leth. I always wondered how many Klingon’s chopped off their own fingers handling one of those wild curved bladed weapons.

Fortunately, this particular version will leave all your limbs and digits intact since it is made from foam. That means you can be the king of Nerf battles when you whip this thing out and commence to beating on chumps that are out of darts.

foam-batleth-weapon

The foam weapon is based on one of the Bat’leth propsused in the series and is four feet long. You can pick one up at Entertainment Earth for $42.99 when it lands in April 2016. Pre-orders are underway right now.

Compared to other fictional weapons, the sword used by Attack on Titan‘s heroes isn’t that hard to replicate. But if you want to go straight to slashing with the Survey Corps, you can’t go wrong with ThinkGeek’s officially licensed replica. The plastic sword measures 30″ long and has ejectable blades. You’ll just have to imagine the rest of the 3D Maneuver Gear.

DIY 3D Printed Light-up Halo Energy Sword: Slice & Solder

There are tons of foam or plastic replicas of the iconic Energy Sword, but tinkerers can make one that does more with less weight with the help of Adafruit’s guide. The company’s design uses 3D printed components and a pair of RGB LED strips to create a cool prop or toy.

3d_printed_light_up_halo_energy_sword_by_adafruit_1

The replica is based on Adafruit’s Arduino-compatible Feather microcontroller and its NeoPixel LED strip. The company also designed 3D models of the sword’s blades and handle; you’ll need to print the former with a translucent material so the light from the NeoPixel will shine through. Adafruit’s Bluetooth app will let you change the NeoPixel’s color and mode.

Lunge to Adafruit’s website for the guide.
